The new single from East London’s Imogen Mahdavi is the laid-back, soothing track, ‘Late Night Calls’. Described by the artist herself as sensual and sexy while simultaneously being centred on heartbreak, she clearly has a gift for complex and poetic lyricism. “It all felt so painful to write and yet all this energy came out in the songs,” she says. “It’s like my mind didn’t know where I needed to be, but my heart knew in a few months of healing I would want to dance and scream and smile again.” Her unique vocal is at the forefront of a beat centred on subtle, side-chaining synth sounds and distant percussion which combines to form a distinctive sonic palette. -Dan Peeke
